38-page letter responses dept of justice fbi letter to rev james le bar (I also got responses from The Nation and Rev. James Le Bar, but I can't locate those letters.) U. S. Department of Justice Criminal Division Washington, D.C. 20530 March 18, 1994 Mr. Eric Nakao P.O. Box New York, NY 10185 Dear Mr. Nakao: This is to thank you for your letter to the Attorney General. She appreciates the time you took to share your views with her. Although Attorney General Reno would like to respond personally to each letter she receives, her extensive, official duties prevent her from doing so. Those of us who are involved in criminal justice and law enforcement benefit greatly from the active involvement of citizens such as yourself who express their thoughts on important issues in these fields. Again, thank you for writing. Sincerely, Karen L. Knapp Inspector-Deputy Chief Office of Public and Congressional Affairs Bicentennial of the United States Constitution (1787-1987) top | top of this letter ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- April 8, 1994 (mailed) (Typed from a handwritten version) Dear Rev. Le Bar: Thank you for your letter in response to the letter I sent you concerning possible criminal activities cults might be involved in. You say that you're not sure what I wanted you to do, but since you have contacts with former cult members, I was wondering if you could ask some of them if they had heard anything about my situation, particularly about (my) being harassed and monitored by the Scientologists beginning back in Los Angeles and continuing possibly to the present. And to a lesser extent, Moonies here in New York and other groups whose identities I don't know. There are also some Christian-based groups that I mentioned in my letter associated with the Canyon Country homeless shelter in LA, the Pacific Gardens shelter in Chicago and the Volunteers of America shelter on Wards Island in New York, the Jehovah's Witnesses, and others. I don't know if these latter groups would fall into your definitions of a cult, but if you could find out anything I would appreciate it. Also in my concluding section, I listed different situations that might be responsible for what's happening to me. (Alliance of cults, alliance of cults with mainstream group, organized crime and intelligence agencies, a secret war and the supernatural). If you would have any information on the possibility of the existence of these situations, especially as they pertain to me, that would also be appreciated. On the other hand, I would not want to put you or your church in any danger. I sent out over 100 copies of the letter I sent to you. I've gotten back one form letter from a magazine, and 2 form letters from the Department of Justice. Your response was the only personal acknowledgement that I've received. I don't know if it's just my imagination, but it seemed that in the few weeks after I received you letter, I began noticing stories in the media where clerical people were injured like the two Greek Orthodox priests who were killed in a Queens highway crash, an anti-Mafia Catholic priest being assassinated in Italy and a Protestant minister dying of a heart attack in Chicago after the police broke into his apartment on a drug raid on a misreading of information given by an informant. The Greek Orthodox incident could be explained by financial problems that the Orthodox Church was having with a real estate deal and the Italian priest could have been killed because of the upcoming national elections, but I'll leave that to you to decide. Again, thank you for you reply and if you feel that you could find any of the information that I requested that could be very helpful to me. posted: december 12, 2004 document update: web page update: january 1, 2005 top | top of this letter |
